Making the Ward Safe for You

Public safety has been a major priority for me throughout my community work. Some of my notable achievements include:
  • Identifying all the areas within Uptown with registered sex offenders living close to schools, playgrounds, and social services serving children. More than 30 sex offenders have since been identified.
  • Holding a workshop for local businesses about how to prevent and curb graffiti.
  • Working with the police to educate the community about how to effectively respond to aggressive panhandling and distributing posters suggesting the best ways to respond.
  • Collaborating with two area nursing homes to address and resolve negative behavior by their residents affecting the neighborhood.

Public Safety Platform

As your alderman, I will continue to make public safety a priority by:
  • Committing to you that either I or a representative of my office will attend and play an active role at all CAPS meetings within the 46th Ward.
  • I will also collaborate with CAPS, residents, social services, and businesses to reduce crime within the 46th Ward.
  • Convening community meetings to address concerns of residents when a major police activity, such as a drug bust or other criminal activity, takes place.
  • As CAPS participants know, involved residents working with police can help identify and resolve criminal activity.
  • Holding joint meetings with the police commanders of the 20th and 23rd Districts, which both fall within the 46th Ward, to monitor and address crime trends.
  • Collaborating with the CTA to reduce the rate of crime around “L” stations and bus stops.
  • Working with local businesses to prevent the incidence of graffiti and identify resources to reduce its damaging effects.
